HIST 5366 Modern Russia

A survey of Russian history from 1689 to the present. Special attention will be given to the structure and ideology of Imperial Russia, the origins and nature of the revolutionary movement which emerged in the nineteenth century and eventually evolved into the Bolshevik (Communist) Party, the Russian Revolution, and the Stalin period. The course will provide a balanced coverage of the political, diplomatic, social, economic, and intellectual heritage of modern Russia.
