CSD 4351 Swallowing Across the Lifespan

This course covers swallowing disorders in both the pediatric and adult populations. Areas of discussion include the anatomy and physiology of normal deglutition as well as the stages of a normal swallow. The course will include assessment of swallowing disorders. Disorders of deglutition are reviewed. Management of the patient with swallowing disorders after treatment of oral-pharyngeal and laryngeal cancer is discussed. Neuromuscular swallowing disorders are included. Special concerns directly affecting the pediatric population are highlighted.
