PA 6236 Care for Special Populations

Review of care for special populations including pediatric patients, geriatric patients, obstetric, surgical patients, and patients in the emergency department. The course provides the Physician Assistant student, as a future healthcare practitioner, an excellent understanding of the expanding areas of pediatrics and geriatrics and prepares the Physician Assistant student to appropriately evaluate, diagnose, monitor, treat, counsel, and refer vulnerable patients. This course also explores various types of medical and surgical conditions that are present in a modern-day emergency department and prepares the Physician Assistant student to evaluate, treat, and monitor such conditions. Students are provided mechanisms to evaluate resources that are needed and available to provide appropriate ambulatory, emergency, and tertiary care services in a hospital setting.
