Objectives

The Computer Science Department offers Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Behavioral Science, and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Computer Science. These degrees have the same computer science course requirements but differ in their supporting course requirements. The department also offers a cybersecurity minor which can be combined with any major. Computer Science is a broad degree that fosters "systems thinking" and emphasizes problem-solving skills in the context of utilizing machines than can perform billions of operations per second. The Computer Science department is committed to developing a culture among its faculty and students of "Doing the Right Thing." This central concept includes these five components:
• Doing the right thing matters.
• Doing the right thing means developing competence.
• Doing the right thing means living in community.
• Doing the right thing means finding moral, effective, and correct solutions.
• Doing the right thing means honoring God in all we do.
To this end students are encouraged to complete each assignment in a way that demonstrates integrity, develops competence, is correct, and honors God, because what we do matters. Computer Science faculty are likewise encouraged to apply this same standard to their teaching duties.

Computer science graduates continue to enjoy a vibrant job market with a wide variety of opportunities. HSU enjoys relationships with local businesses who offer internship opportunities for current students and regularly hire our computer science graduates.
