PBHL 4485 Critical Issues in Global Health

The course introduces students to global public health issues of two kinds including, fundamental cross-cutting issues such as the relationship between global health and economic development, and selected thematic areas such as child survival, HIV/AIDS, and global tobacco control. The course will contextualize current efforts in global health from historical and likely future trends. Readings will be drawn from a range of disciplinary perspectives, including nursing,history, political science, economics, sociology, and anthropology. A major goal of this course is to equip students with selected critical perspectives and the resources needed as public health professionals and global citizens within an increasingly smaller, complex, and interdependent world.
