PBHL 2301 Introduction to Public Health

The interdisciplinary course will provide a history and broad overview of the public health system including definition, origins, evolution, and contemporary structure and administration at the federal, state, and local levels in the United States. In addition, it will provide a broad framework for understanding the mission, key concepts, principles, and practices of population-based public health practice through an introduction to five core disciplines: epidemiology, biostatistics, environmental health, and health policy and management. Through the use of case studies and interactive modalities, students will have an opportunity to see how basic concepts may be applied in real-world settings.
